So I'm listening to some songs from a compilation album that seem to be from a time before digital mastering, CDs, and DATs. Apparently, they didn't clean them up enough for the CD compilation and I keep hearing some kind of noticeable background hiss on my laptop.

    What could it be?

(Stereo is also weird-ish for some tracks there. No hard left/right, but it seems to have... issues.)

If you ever make a new desktop, skip the HDDs and SSDs, and just get a SSHD.

5400 RPM notebook HDDs are not supposed to be competitive with real SSDs

I keep telling myself that, but Windows Event Log and stopwatches don't lie.

I think I might eventually bite and buy FFVII and FFVIII for Windows together when the deal shows up. It's leakyleak day.

They seem to have dropped support.

Seeing as they went and tried to convert everything GPL to LGPL (perhaps for Windows RT?) and rewrote the code to be much more friendly to mobile platforms (Unix-styled code won't work well in mobile environments and Windows NT), maybe FluidSynth couldn't be kept?

Windows 8.1 actually brings a lot of things to Windows Runtime that make apps like VLC possible (and right now, release imminent), like I/O access (example: DVD playback).

    First impressions:

Wizardry 6 is way too clunky.

Wizardry 7 is still too clunky for my own good.

I've gotten a good feel of Wizardry 8, though, with the sample party, and I feel at home.

    I guess I'm shelving 6 and 7 for now.

After a decade, a lot of things change with regard to both game design and presentation. Whether it's good or bad depends on your point of view...

    Quote:
Screensavers were originally designed for older computer monitors to avoid "burn in", damage caused to the screen by leaving your monitor on. Even though modern monitors no longer need screensavers, they are still an interesting distraction!
Makes you wonder how old are these monitors that burn in. (Turning off the monitor is the best "screen saver", anyway.)

It's quite telling that if I want a thin ultraportable that still keeps an optical drive, I'm basically stuck with Toshiba Portege (HOW did they cram in a functional tray-loader?!)... and I still don't think they'll keep churning out the optical-drive models for too long.
