    Never-to-be-released-here?

    I think he forgot that one can implement multiple audio sources for HTML5 audio.

    Something like...
    Code:
    <audio>
    <source src="source1.mp3" type="audio/mp3" />
    <source src="source2.ogg" type="audio/ogg" />
    </audio>
    etc...

    (I converted every single one of your "My Music" music into the Ogg Vorbis format.

    Uh oh...

    I think I need to find a way to stop the audio files from preloading in the experiments page on browsers that are not IE9+!

    Also, testing with Safari, well, favicon is borked, and I won't fix that because it's the standard ico file being used, so I think it's a bug on Safari's side.

    Try pinning the site. XD

    Hm? What would you like to do?

    Things I noted from today:
    • Power cuts + heavy reliance on computers = nothing to do except to shut down all computers.
    • Out of 8 PCs that I have seen, 5 are running Windows 7, 1 is running Windows Vista, and two are XP holdovers.
    • Printers + networking + XP = aaaaaaarrrrrrrrrgh
    • Sometimes the scanner does not do what you expect it to do. Ever heard of a scanner that mirrors what you put in?
    • You do not want to be missing some software that can create PDFs.
    • Always bring USB-to-micro-USB connectors. There's never enough of them.

    I'm going to take Android OS upgrades on my own hands cause Samsung isn't planning to roll out ICS updates for Galaxy S. However, I test the custom firmware out first by making sure that all the important functions (namely working HSDPA, Wi-Fi, calling and messaging) work. Seems like the one I updated to just now didn't so I'm reverting to stock.

    (It's really difficult to brick that phone with them updates and flashing ROMs, because even if an unsuccessful update or flash occurs, there are two things that are never touched, as long as the bootloader is untouched (which it should be) - Recovery and Download modes)

    I also like the fact that Opera has Speed Dial. On my phone it makes browsing real easy. Helps that the buttons are huge.

    (Opera is my mobile browser of choice, and I tend to avoid the default browsers that come with smartphones because chances are Opera handles rendering better.)
  67. Twiggy
    January 7, 2012 07:15:18 AM
    Twiggy
    Um, I meant whether it ends up as stereo output or decoded output.

    IE has too many registry tweaks. Just did one to make the New Tabs page show 15 blocks instead of 10. 20 and 25 just kinda overflows when I don't have the window maximized and I'd prefer to be able to do something else just in case... XD

    Did it end up not decoding it?

    I also noticed that...

    When it's running in 3DS mode, Surround behaves differently depending on whether it's using 3DS speakers or plugged-in speakers/headphones.

    In the former, externalisation is performed, making the sound to appear coming from right on your ear instead of where the speakers are. However, this can and will reduce sound volume and quality by a large amount.

    In the latter, instead, headphone virtualisation is performed - instead of the sound being right on your ears, well, it behaves more like as if there were speakers in front of you. Makes things more comfortable in the long term and doesn't kill either volume or quality, but some people do not like it.

    In DS mode, Surround only does externalisation and cannot be adapted to headphone scenarios. Listening with headphones = things might get a bit too heavy...
  70. Twiggy
    January 7, 2012 06:06:06 AM
    Twiggy
    Me?

    Whatever it is, I almost always use stereo. Always. No exceptions unless the game can only output in mono. I noticed that things get a bit too muffled even in games when you're not using headphones.

    (I know that some things completely discard the right channel so that using stereo output might mean dropped audio.)

    By the way, what sound setting do you use when:
    • Playing music
    • Playing 3DS games
    • Playing Virtual Console/3D Classics games
    • Playing DS games (if supported via options)
    while using your 3DS?

    They say that if it's possible, doing a feature detection is a better idea.

    I wonder how true that is...

    Also, conditional comments will never work in IE10 when rendering in HTML5 mode.

    Here's a sample for you.

    Code:
    <!--[if lt IE 7]>
    	<div id="IE6Warning">
    		<p>
    		Um, you seem to be using Internet Explorer 6 or older to view the site.
    		<br /><br />If you haven't noticed yet, parts of the page are laid out incorrectly, even with PIE in use to make sure that the CSS3 effects are being shown.
    		Web standards evolve, and your browser is way behind the times. It's time to upgrade now, don't you think?
    		Internet Explorer 6 is over 10 years old at this point - and let's not get started on versions older than that.
    		<br /><br />If by any chance you're actually using at least version 8, disable Compatibility View by clicking the icon that
    		resembles a broken page.
    		</p>

    I know one website that is still using outdated tools to make its pages. It's been forever since the last Netscape Composer was released, huh? Whatever it is, I know for sure that lots of things will refuse to layout properly in IE when there's no reason to. (and the DOCTYPE part is crazier)

And while on the topic of VRAC, are we only going to be able to get rare Pokémon via codes only again? Or will we randomly run into them like was possible when we had like 10 random adopts and we choose one? I'm guessing codes. :3 Which leads me to another question, but that one can wait.
