Discuss the PokeAthlon

I've done it a couple of times, and it seems rather... cult like. And its a bit overly easy, yet still amusing to watch regigigas trucking cacuna off a cliff.

Fubab_107 April 5, 2010 12:31:41 AM

I was shocked to see how fast and long my buizel ran. Had it going for 4 straight laps before I decided to switch out.

Ningamer April 5, 2010 04:24:26 AM

My Kingdra has awesome speed and perfect stamina. In the running one I've done 5 laps in one run!

I wouldn't call the Pokéthlon bad... It's just a bit gimicky. And sometimes it doesn't respond too well.

SK April 5, 2010 06:00:05 AM

Snorlax can go over 3 laps because he has so much stamina. :P I wanna get 3 Snorlaxes and do a stamina Pokeathlon with them. :3

Quadcentruo April 5, 2010 06:22:49 AM

Watching Lugia jump hurdles is pretty... interesting....

I will admit, the pokeathlon reminds me alot of mario party.

You play some mini-games, you get bonuses at the end, winner take all-ish.

aragornbird April 5, 2010 09:07:33 AM

It's a pretty cool addition. I enjoy it much more than Contests since it makes good use of the touch screen as well as the new overworld sprites.

Shadow April 5, 2010 09:15:37 AM

I'm literally addicted to the Pokéathlon. It's a way better addition than contests, and much more rewarding.

I agree.
Most rewarding would have to be the rare candies if you ask me.

LiteTheIronMan April 5, 2010 11:40:57 AM

I challenge you guys to jump hurdles with either member of the Diglett family.

Lol yes, I'm going to use all of my points on them once I get all of the cards that you put in the information computer thing.

Magmaster12 April 5, 2010 04:03:10 PM

I like it so much better then contests, easier and better rewards and a lot more fun too.

Emploneon April 5, 2010 04:19:08 PM

The pokeathlon is AWESOME!nuff said.

Sunny April 5, 2010 06:36:47 PM

Much much better then contest.
Why get a ribbon when you can get a medal, AND something thats actually useful in game? =p

Also this.

Velociraptor78 April 5, 2010 07:31:51 PM

Me no speako Japanese-o. Translate pl0x? Kthx.

Yoshi648 April 5, 2010 07:39:46 PM

You don't need translation, a picture (in this case of buff Pokemon) is worth a 1000 words.

Indeed~!
Its also worth noting that sunkern has the same stats as arceus. :V Making him surprisingly the best to use in pokethons. =w=

WHAT. Ok, this... it... no, a picture is worth 1 000 lack of words. :P

Shadow April 6, 2010 10:36:19 AM

I have a question:
Let's say I have the Leaf Stone and Rare Candy as part of the Pokéathlon prizes on Monday. Won't there be a time when Monday prizes are going to change from those? Or will they remain like that on each and every Monday?

LiteTheIronMan April 6, 2010 03:00:58 PM

There are set prizes for each day of the week, but only a select few of those sets are shown per day.

Bulbapedia has the full list of prizes.

What would happen with Machamp? :O

Flare Soru April 7, 2010 07:33:16 PM

Where does one find all their stats and records? All I can find is my first place deals downstairs...

smith April 13, 2010 11:58:28 PM

I enjoyed the pokeathalon. Except for the snowball fight, I'm horrid at that one. But I think its a nice break from pokemon hunting.I have only won the speed and jump pokeathlons so far.The minigames are actually pretty fun.

GuildmasterWigglytuff April 14, 2010 04:22:05 AM

I find the Pokéathlon pretty cool. Is that a ditto in the second part of the comic strip?

Blues.EXE April 14, 2010 09:47:07 AM

The Pokeathlon is EPIC. There was this one minigame where you gotta knock off the foes pkmn off some sort of panel. (forgot what its called...) and I brought my Snorlax with me? Holy crap it was AMAZING.

TheRagingTyranitar April 28, 2010 01:12:16 PM

I like Pokéathlon instead of Contests.
Because they are really fun and addicting.

Quadcentruo May 1, 2010 07:00:19 PM

PokeAthlon > Contests
Reasons:
-You get points to redeem for prizes
-You feel like you can accomplish something worthwhile
-The prizes can help you later in the game, for something such as catch 'em all run
-Medals > Ribbons
-Sunkern is broken

THAT IS ALL!

Magmaster12 May 1, 2010 07:04:41 PM

Machamp would become a ball of muscles.

BlackRayquaza May 2, 2010 12:40:10 PM

I like Pokeathlon. I used my Ho-oh, Lugia, and Rayquaza in the jump one. Of course, I won.

McVicker1292 June 8, 2010 06:08:02 AM

I'm having trouble with the PokeAthon actually. It won't let me spend my points on any new stones. It could be a completely new day and it'll still say the same message, "You can't buy anymore today!" Help?

Turtwig June 15, 2010 07:01:02 PM

I like the Pokeathlon, mostly because you use the touch screen a lot.

TheRagingTyranitar June 15, 2010 07:20:27 PM

I like it but get's too boring after a while :P

_.-Mew August 29, 2010 04:31:17 PM

What do you think about the Pokeathlon?

I think that it is a cool minigame/feature in Pokemon HGSS.

11Trident11 August 29, 2010 04:35:42 PM

I think it's great for getting items. its faster, more fun, and easier than the battle tower and all the other stuff in the battle fronteir

Serenade August 29, 2010 08:14:49 PM

Easy at first, ridiculously hard to win eventually. Many of the stats are worthless, and some are way OP, skill does nothing, Stamina/speed/power do everything.

Another poorly implemented mini game that could have been made awesome easily.

To be honest, it beats contests 10 to 1, though Nintendo needs to focus more on breeding/battling, and less on minigames.

Quadcentruo August 30, 2010 07:29:13 AM

Wow, 3 month bump.

Searinox September 12, 2010 04:40:44 AM

Pokeathlon has got to be the best minigame ever in a pokemon game, well worth dumping the game corner for. The games and music is good, and the prizes are awesome. I ignored it for the most of the game, since non-GC minis had disappointed me ever since RSE. I realized how wrong I was to assume the same of HGSS.

Luxray13579 September 12, 2010 04:44:31 AM

I love the Pokeathlon! It's so much fun. It's a great game to play with my sister and (2) neighbours. I am the master at the relay race out of everyone I know, my record is a nice lofty 17.8
EDIT: I also usually don't score lower than 16.2, and my record run was preformed by a team of level one Shinx.

Ningamer September 12, 2010 04:49:36 AM

I enter three Togepi when I try the speed course. On the last event (The running one) I've got over 18 laps!

About the ONLY events where I've detected Skill rating as necessity are in Snow Throw and Goal Roll.

For Snow Throw, it actually helps to have at least ONE Pokemon with high Skill and/or Power ratings. Why Skill is needed isn't entirely based on throwing Accuracy, but how fast your snowball goes after you've flung it at a target. It sounds a bit crazy, but you'd need to have Pokemon with completely maxed Skill and one with nearly no Skill side-by-side to notice the discrepancy.

Goal Roll is always something crazy everytime, but mainly Skill just affects how long you can punt the ball after dashing. Although, Power and Speed come in handy for when you want to slightly nudge the ball (Power), and when you want to wreak some havoc on the field (Speed). Although for the lfie of me, I still can't get the Potential trophy for Pennant Capture.

Now, is it just me, or is it near impossible to get a 500 score on the Jump event? I've yet to figure out the scoring formula the game uses for Disc Catch, and sometimes I find the scoring for Hurdle Dash just as annoying.

Umbreonpwnr August 30, 2011 04:26:29 AM

So much better than contests…

7dewott8 August 30, 2011 06:44:42 AM

The pokteleon is better than anything from other generations.

My Favorite Coruse was the Stamina one. It had all of the fun events.

Kero September 4, 2011 08:15:05 AM

God I actually forgot I posted here before.

I'm almost up to 400 medalist Pokemon.
