CONFIRMED list of all English B/W names
Many websites and message boards have been recently circulating a list of English and Italian Black/White Pokémon names. While this list is not 100% confirmed yet, it contains the names which have been just revealed by the Pokémon IGN. Until this turns out to be real, however, please take the list as lightly as possible.
List of English and Italian Black/White Pokémon names
EDIT: It is confirmed now by Serebii. Source: PokéBeach, Serebii Last edited by The Spirit of Time; January 19, 2011 at 05:04:52 AM. Reason: Confirmation |

Not that I will be memorizing these names quite soon, but I am definitely going to get used to them during the play of the games. Some of them do sound bad, that's for sure. And what were they thinking of "Throh"? :S

The bad names (in my opinion)

Judging by the names only, here's the order of the starters for me: Snivy > Tepig > Oshawott "Throh" and "Sawk" are among the very worst names they've ever given a Pokémon. :/ |

These aren't confirmed, so I'm staying a bit cautious, but they seem... decent. My first reaction to them isn't great since I'm used to the Japanese names, but I guess I'll get used to them. (not like I have much of a choice, tee hee hee)

Mmm... makes sense... First dude's solo and mitosis, second dude's duo and fission, third dude's reunite and homunculus. I actually think I like that name more now that I get what it means. *edits list*
Kay. My favorites this generation: 1. Volcarona 2. Snivy 3. Gigalith 4. Pignite 5. Emboar 6. Litwick 7. Ferroseed 8. Bisharp (Is it just me, or are there a lot of Pokemon this gen with long names?) Last edited by Leaftail; January 14, 2011 at 04:00:49 PM. |

My Opinions on the names.
Spoiler Alert:
Generally good overall, Amoonguss is the funniest name i've ever seen. I wish they included Meloetta, but I guess we won't get the events for a while. Last edited by Sableyed; January 14, 2011 at 06:00:37 PM. |

I just noticed the name origin behind these guys
#633 - Deino (Ein - German for one [well, technically "a"]) #634 - Zweilous (Zwei - German for two; the rest - dunno) #635 - Hydreigon (Hydra - Mythical multi-headed dragon; drei - German for three) Also Conkeldurr > Roopushin |

Overall, mostly good names. Not gonna get into details about which ones I think are strange, because I won't even care in two months.

Vanillish, lite and luxe.
I think I've seen a line of ice cream with a lite and deluxe version. -lish must, probably come from delicious :/ Oh well, most of them sound pretty cool and decent, except for Krookodile, Kling(and family) and... oh goodness... *facepalm* Foongus Amoongus.. Fungus among us.. SERIOUSLY GAME FREAK? |

Serebii has announced thee new English names that he got from a magazine in UK (Excadrill, Sewaddle, Alomomola). The three names match the names mentioned in the list, therefore, I can easily say that these names are now confirmed.

Well, I suppose it's confirmed now, so I'll post my reviews on all the Grass-types...
Servine - Meh, it works, but it's a little too obvious. Serperior - Sounds a bit too much like Rhyperior to me. :/ Sewaddle - Er...what? Swadloon - It's...OK...I guess...? Leavanny - At least I won't get Hahakomori with Koromori any more with the new names. Cottonee - ...really!? Whimsicott - Woah, what's so whimsical about it? The name's way too long. ._. Petilil - This is actually an acceptable name, so I'm glad there's at least one. Lilligant - Again, a bit too predictable. Maractus - Predictable yet again... Deerling - X_X Sawsbuck - Better than Deerling. (But technically anything is better than Deerling. -.-) Foongus - Sounds funny. FOOOOOOOOONGUS. Amoongus - Again, sounds funny. AMOOOOOOOOOOOONGUS. Ferroseed - Porbably one of the more creative names of the bunch, but...eh. Ferrothorn - Same as Ferroseed. Virizion - No change. Honestly I don't see what else they could have named it. Yamask - O.K, I guess.
Cofagrigus - YOUR A @?Ł Frillish - Is this based on the frill around the neck? Jellicent - Cent makes Burungel sound old, that's exactly what it is. Litwick - Daw.... Lampent - Chandelure - PURE EPICNESS Golett - Daw..... Golurk - Sounds cool. Serperior - Awesome. Seismitoad - SEISMIC. |

Keep in mind we also have stuff like "Seel", "Muk", "Krabby", and "Ninetales." We're stuck with these names so I'm just going to try and get used to them... though not to say I won't be nicknaming most of these Pokemon the names I'm used to hearing!

Well we've got stuff like Seel and Krabby, and we have gotten used to those, so I guess some of these... disagreeable names will get the same treatment. Then againi, there are ones that are pretty good this gen, I would say!

Everyone has to realize that 1st Gen names were statistically among the least creative: almost all were puns or the Japanese romanization (Pikachu). There were exceptions, sure, but all subsequent generations were actually quite creative. ...The Pokémon themselves, on the other hand, are a whole 'nother story. |

That doesn't mean this list is 100% correct.
Let me know when nintendo 100% confirms this list to be 100% correct, not they've revealed a few new names and they match the list so they all must be right because 3 obviously = 200+ I haven't looked at the list yet, and won't until all names are confirmed. I'll take official updates as they happen. Excadrill= All right Sewaddle= Will take some getting used to Alomomola= Sounds like a candy bar xD |

My opinions on some names... I included all of my favorites (in bold) and just others I had anything to say about. I left out quite a few because I just didn't have any opinion on them.. kinda neutral.

After reading your post and Kaz's, I have to agree. Names like Krabby, Seel and Ninetales seem kind of silly to me now, but we got used to them over the generations despite that. I think the same will happen to the English names of Gen V's Pokémon eventually. Last edited by Shadow; January 20, 2011 at 03:49:19 AM. |

"Buta" is pig, and "Oh" is a shorter version of "Ouja", which means King. Granted, Emboar is much cooler, and the fact it can be phonetically backed up is even more awesome. |
