I like instrumental music, but I tend to listen to lyrical rock more. However, it's certainly a more common occurrence that I encounter a lyrical song that I don't like than an instrumental song I don't like. I think instrumental music covers a broader spectrum; there's music that one can just turn on while doing something else that makes a pleasant background and there's music to which one can actively listen. Right now I'm listening to skweee, which is the kind of music I can just leave on without getting distracted. I also listen to video game music and bands that play video game music. My favorite in the latter category is Powerglove.

I just noticed that you have Gauntlet up there. Hooray for Midway for not kontinuing a game that was liked! That and they effed up MK. Oh wellz.
Oh, btw, has anyone else noticed that most gamers are into the rock, metal and everything between those? Just saying kause I used to like rap and hip hop until I started listening to VG music which then led me to like Rock and stuff. Ehh, just putting that out there. Instrumental music helps me through my writing. Which is why when people read chapters of my fanfics, I usually tell them an instrumental song to listen to while they read it. Helps them really imagine what is going on. Plus, it makes it all the more enjoyable!

I write lots of instrumentals, notably Tracks 1 & 2: "The Ballad of Winter" and "(The Scenery of the Poverty) Tyler's Song" on my band Norris' Are Gods EP. Also, YYZ = MORE EPIC THAN EVERYTHING ELSE. There are so few instrumentals out there that don't exist on non-instrumental mix albums. I enjoy a nice instrumental. My favorite instrumental band are Boards of Canada, a Scottish electronic duo who have written "Beware the Friendly Stranger" (the Salad Fingers background music) and several other tracks for [adult swim] bumps. They also remixed the track "Broken Drum" by Beck, off the album "Guero," for the remix album "Guerolito." Their track "5:9:78," off the rare cassette tape "A Few Old Tunes," was used in a Nissan commercial.
