Assistant Moderator and whatnot. I just figured the best way to go about ending an argument was to clean up its existence and hope that we could move on like it never even happened. Personal quips can be dealt with over PM's or VM's, after all. I'll just wait to be bombarded with the "we weren't arguing, we were discussing" claim xP Anyway, it could very well be that I've been too strict. I am very new to this moderating thing, after all. My apologies if I've been too harsh.

On the general topic of homework that was being discussed, my senior project is due in four weeks. I've almost got the website constructed as far as appearance is concerned; now I just need to get the code done, write a user manual, update the project proposal, project plan, and test plan, work on a powerpoint for my final presentation, reserve a room on campus for the presentation, write my script for the presentation, and, of course, all the other homework assignments I'm required to do along the way.
Oh yeah. I have two other courses I'm taking in conjunction with senior project, so I have to do the labs for my multiplayer online game development class and my career development class. I just have a lab to do in the former, but I have to research three out-of-state jobs for the latter this week.

PS: In order to make the thought of all this homework less traumatic for me, I just thought I'd mention that I have the distinct honor of having the first post in this thread to have a post number of over nine thousand.

Why do you sign-up to many activities if you can't handle them? It would exhaust you after a while.

Oh okay. Thanks for clarifying.

If you want my genuine opinion, should stick to community college if you can't figure out what you want to do in college to begin with. Alternatively, if you do have a set major in mind you can usually transfer any credits you do get along the way. Not too much cheaper than a four-year college, but if you tend to count down every penny like I tend to, then it might be more feasible.

Although admittedly, finding anywhere with cheap tuition is like trying to find a shiny during Bug Catching Contests.

I digress.

I had an interview with the Headmaster today as I applied for a Senior Prefect. It was quite spooky, but I think it ended up well, or that's what I hope.

Include yourself as lucky. I am thinking of going to Diploma next year after IGs, and if I do so, I will be applying for the exams on the same year. Thus, instead of a 2-years course, I will have to manage with one.

yeah, community college is cheaper, and I'm on the side that does count money until I get what I want... which isn't good thinking if I want to go to college.

So after an almost-finished weekend full of homeworks and preparation for tests, I can now say I'm pretty excited about the upcoming Monday. The school staff members and management will be announcing the leadership team for the academic year, and like Spirit, I gave an interview last Thursday. However, I applied for the Headboy position instead of Senior Prefect, so my odds are much harder yet more rewarding if things work.

It's funny how in some bathrooms, everything is hands-free and motion-detecting to prevent contact and contamination; the toilets, the sinks, the soap, paper towels, air-driers, etc... Everything except the door, which defeats the purpose of having all those hands-free devices in the first place.

If that's the case, just grab a paper towel and use that to open the door. That's what I do. On topic of automatic bathrooms, my school can afford automatic flush toilets, yet they can't even put some air conditioning in. They don't even have heat in some rooms! They need to get their priorities straight.

In malls, everything here is automatic. That include both bathrooms and doors.

Some of these automatic/hands-free things in bathrooms actually make sense. But there's one thing I don't get: the automatic soap dispenser.

Who cares if you get germs on your hands from touching a soap dispenser? If you're using soap (which is what happens when you use a soap dispenser), wouldn't all of those germs be washed away anyways? If anyone can find a way that it reduces the spread of germs, please tell me.

The hands-free thingies are kinda annoying, more often than not I stick my hands under the automatic sink and nothing comes out for the first few seconds, or I have to wave my hands first. It's still more responsive than Kinect though.

Our girls' bathroom is totally automatic, but the guys' bathroom is totally manual. It's really strange. I think they're saying girls are more important.

Also, I officially decided to quit marching band next year.

Can't do that if you're in one of those "environment-friendly" bathrooms that only has air-dryers to save paper.

Yesterday, I was appointed as a Senior Prefect in my school. That sure is going to be cool with skipping classes and enjoying a lot of privilege. 8)

DEPUTY HEAD BOY 2011-2012!

Sorry, just had to get this out of me! The school headmaster and staff chose me as the Deputy Head Boy yesterday, which is the second highest rank in the whole school after the Head Boy position. The announcement was a shocker, since pretty much everyone (except myself!) expected me to become the Head Boy based on my studies, popularity and achievements (no ego, I swear). However, I'm happy with what I landed and I believe I will have a little more free time to study for my IGCSEs, which are the most important aspect of this year. Still, I'm going to work so hard to prove that the school made the wrong decision!

It's also got to do with wastage; an automatic soap dispenser is somewhat less wasteful than the manual ones...

So I just got invited by this program called, "People To People" to go and study in France, Italy, and Greece in the summer of 2012.
I'm really confused right now about it. A part of me says to take hold of this great opportunity, but the other part of me says to stay here. /:

I'm confused, too. How is this an "opportunity"? Leaving all your friends and family to go to a place you don't know about and immerse yourself in a language you don't really speak, not to mention try to LEARN in that language... I personally see no opportunity there.

Of course, I hate traveling in all of its aspects, and the idea of spending my time learning to live in a culture I don't/will never live in seems unnecessary. Of course, if you're thinking about living there someday, that's another story.

That's exactly what I'm starting to think now. My mom says I should go, but I'd practically be spending a summer there, with no way of visiting them, missing out on family events.

I also hate traveling too. It's probably 'cause I've never been out of the country, expect when visiting Mexico.
Heck, I've only been out of the state once or twice.

I once slept in my house back in Lebanon not knowing that there was a mouse in my room. I was sleeping on the floor! o_O

I'm the opposite of you guys. Nothing seems more fun than touring as many countries as you can and getting to know different cultures. Of course, family members are not excluded here...

I still hate school, it is too much work. The only class that is fun is Band.

I agree it is an amazing thing. Shiny you should do it. Maybe we'll meet IRL. I'm doing it too.

I have a kid in my guitar class who keeps poking me and farting. His breath smells like raw sewage. Honestly my days in school suck cause of him.

Tell him to back off or report the teacher. If the teacher can't help, tell your parents so they can do something about it.

Try asking the teacher if you can switch your spot, or kindly tell his aide who takes care of him about your concern.

He doesn't have an aid. The teacher and all of us just call him Shtangy. He watches him like a hawk.

My band director is having a baby. Everyone is making a big deal, but I'm only interested in when he's taking his paternity leave.

Wow, HE is having a baby?
That's not something you see every day. I didn't even think it was possible!
And... paternity leave? Can't say I've heard of anything but maternity leave. First time for everything, I guess.

Well I kinda meant his wife, and for some reason my school has paternity leave for three weeks. Anyways I'm excited to not to have him.

We had a Physics test last Thursday about electricity, which was actually hard. Yet our teacher considered it easy and promised a very hard exam for the midyears. I feel like stabbing myself. :@

I LOVE electricity. It deals with forces of nature, which I've always been fascinated with. I mean, you see their effects, but the effects come from seemingly nowhere. Well, that's not quite true for the strong and weak nuclear force. Those occur on a too small of a scale for us to realize. Magnetism and Gravity, on the other hand, are things we do notice. I've done quite a bit of looking into the subject, and it goes down to quantum mechanics and particle physics. These forces are mediated by force-carrying particles (though some are hypothetical and have not been observed, if I recall correctly).

For nerds only (or people who like this stuff):
  • Photons carry the electromagnetic force (you'd think electrons would, but when electrons change go through a quantum leap to the next energy level or drop to a lower one, they either absorb or emit a photon, respectively)
  • Gluons govern the strong nuclear force, which holds atoms together.
  • Bosons work with the weak nuclear force and deals with radioactive decay. I understand this force the least, honestly.
  • Gravitons are a hypothetical particle that works with gravity, as the name implies. It hasn't actually been observed, but it should as far as we know. Believe it or not, Gravity is actually the WEAKEST of the four fundamental forces.

Electricity is nice, but we have been rushing through it recently, and it proved to be rather confusing when not understood well, especially when it comes to circuits with e.m.f, current and resistance.

I have a 5-7 page research essay in my english class due by next Monday, and it is BRUTAL. It's on a book we're reading called Brave New World, and the book is such a pain to read. And on top of that, we have a test this Friday for the first 14 or so chapters of the book. They will be basic "did you read" questions, but that doesn't make it any easier for me since I have problems comprehending what is going on in the book. =/

Sounds rough, but strangely similar to my English class. Im reading The Sea in the Mirror and I can barely understand it because its written in Middle English text. Pre Calculus has been getting hard for me, I'm learning about symmetry and reflections through functions and graphs :s

Symmetry is one of the worst topics for me, along with transformations and statistics. I find them hard to comprehend and relate them to maths. :S

It's been quite a while since I last posted here (or visited the forums, for that matter). I've been keeping busy with all the school work, and so far grade 11 seems to be a very tough year. Take our last chemistry test, for instance: it was about organic compounds, and pretty much all students expect to fail/get a low grade. However, we like to convince ourselves that it's all about the IGCSEs next May/June, not these tests...

5 or so music projects later and about twice as many unfinished summaries, essays, and other assignments later, I cleaned my e-mails out for the first time in over two weeks.

That literally sounds like my mom's inbox ugh.

I would think by now she bothered cleaning her e-mail out because I sure as hell ain't doing it the long weekend if she hasn't by now.

I always delete all Facebook and Victory Road messages as soon as I open them, but I still have 3120 messages in my inbox. Is there a need for me to get rid of some of them? I don't recall there being a limit to the number of emails one can have in their inbox, but I might be wrong.

Dude, I have less than 200 in mine (and even then I want to clean it out!). I just need to wait until I graduate, then 90% of those e-mails can be trashed. I keep them just in case I need to say, "No, look, I DID get/send that e-mail!"

Today was the best day In my Cooking Class. I got to make small muffins. However, the teacher tried making cake in a mug, but ended up burning the vake. When it came out, smoke just blastes the entire place. We couldn't make cake in a mug because she made that mistake. I blame her using a microave.

Anyway, I had an AP Bio field trip today; we listened to a biologist who talked about how stem cell research (despite how controversial it is) can give people perfectly functional organs if they need them and may solve world hunger.

There is a limit, but Hotmail (in my case) expands the email system's performance, to accommodate as much emails as possible. Even with more than 9,000 emails, I still didn't reach 30% of the space provided, so you still have got a lot of emails to receive.

*Sigh...* I feel like I missed a lot since my absence.

One thing I am learning is that the college experience will NEVER compare or match up to a grade school experience....

I'm really struggling with college. It's kinda depressing. It's mainly the algebra that I suck at. I understand Linear equations with the X variable in them, but when they add that Y variable, they lose me every time. This to most people is the simple stuff... which makes it frustrating that in order to get to the classes I want to get to, (Graphic design/ Video game design, etc.) I have to pass this algebra class...

Exactly the same here. I haven't been that active as well because of sports, school, and homework, plus I've been kind of into Spiral Knights recently. And I've lost some interest in Pokemon as well, unfortunately. Even so, I'll try to be more active on weekends.

By having both variables x and y, the equation becomes simultaneous not linear, unless you mean exchanging x with y, then yeah it is linear, but will remain as easy. If it is simultaneous what you mean, then I think I can help you, since yeah, it is harder than linear.

About to go chill with a few old friends for a good 6 hours and play a bit of Brawl for once in my life.

God how I've missed New York.

Hm, I was gonna go to New York. But it had to be canceled, so now I'm stuck on a computer.

I WANTED TO GOOOOOO

Knowing both of those would be great! I'll send you a PM about it. Thanks! ^_^

Simultaneous equations were not as difficult for me as quadratic equations; I especially hate the word problems of the latter, as they always confuse me. However, with grade 11 lessons, I've become more comfortable at solving/factorising quadratic equations, which is enough for now I believe. I really want to score an A* on my Maths IGCSE next May/June, even though it might not be as easy as I'm hoping...

Math and words don't mix together.

I like word problems because they bring to light applications of the concept, and because they make it easier to visualize the problem. It also makes it easier to determine if your answer is correct, because if you get 896 mph or -53 mph for the speed of a car, then you instantly know you're not doing it right.

I have always wanted to go at a speed of negative miles per hour. But that will only be in my dreams.. or Inception.
