So our literature class today focused on a ghost story written by Arthur Conan Doyle; How It Happened. A very short story, yet it is exceptionally hard to write about and analyze. Heck, even the essay would be longer than the story...

Ouch! Maybe the story is so complex, huh?

I don't think I had had any real literature class, though.

Our English Literature classes always involve complicated analyses and technical essay-writing thanks to our teacher. Worse still, they often come consecutive to English Language classes, which means we get to spend around two hours of continuous writing. :/

I took the PSAT yesterday. The math and writing sections were easy, but I can't stand the reading comprehension section; more specifically reading long passages and answering questions on them. Reading quickly and efficiently was never my strong point. :/

I didn't bother to take the PSAT but last week I signed up to take the actual SAT next month. I figured it would be worth the try.

Hey I took PSAT yesterday too. I however am a sophmore who take the SAT until junior year. But my state made it a requirement for all sophmore students to take it.

Yeah, my school requires that both Sophomores and Juniors take it. They way they organized how we took the PSAT was awful, the teachers didn't keep time for us or read the rules well.

I am still in a dilemma whether to apply for my SAT this year or the next year. I have my IGCSE this year, which adds a lot of pressure on me, but next year will not be as free too. I was thinking though of doing a PSAT this year, yet again I am not sure. Do you think PSAT is that important?

I don't know about PSAT because we don't have PSAT at my place. That said, what does PSAT stands for? I know what SAT stands for, but PSAT?

I think things like that are pretty important...

PSAT is just for practice. You don't really need practice when you are an IGCSE student. Still, there are many past SAT papers/questions which you can do for practice if you want. And my advice for you is to do the SAT next year, not this year.

Hmm... the only thing I can say when you're going through examinations like the SAT is... don't stress out. You'll only getting the worse part of it. Try to be... well, calm and cool when it comes to everything.

I myself am handling an examination this year.

Personally I feel the ACT is a little better to take if you know you want to go into a math (like me) or English major

It's really PSATs in relation to SATs. By the way, scarily writing is a strong suit for me as well as math.

I love to write, but I have a hard time writing when I need to follow a topic.
My best writing comes out when I have the freedom to write whatever comes to mind.

Your not alone on that one Shiny. I love to write, but I do alot better if I can freely write about whatever I want to. I think writing freely is more funner than topic writing.

I personally am a better poet than prose, but I am not a project writer (that's what my teacher calls people who can write then they have a topic)

Do not worry about that. My IGCSE is far more stressing than any SAT.

Speaking of the SAT, our school system has provided for about a class' worht of students to take the Kaplan SAT Review course. It is a nice review of everything. I'm hoping it helps me. But it definitely is not worth $700 per student. I'm just glad that I got it for free.

I bought PlayStation 3 last Friday, which is kinda amusing. This is my second console after my DS, which I haven't opened for months. Not that I have interesting games right now, but I am playing Uncharted 2, which is good so far. The whole system is cool, which I really like.

I think the PS3 has its own great selection of games. At this point of time, I'm sure that you'll be able to find something you like.

Even though I never owned a PS3, I have heard good things about Uncharted 2.

Fun fact: While I was planning to buy a 3DS, miscommunication made it end up becoming "PS3". Good thing I corrected them... (It was over the telephone via multiple people.)

Note: I already have a 3DS.

I mean, it's not THAT bad, but here's what happens.

8:30-12:00 on a Saturday morning. It's an online "classroom" with a video of an instructor at her computer with a webcam. We hear her give her Power Point slideshow while she walks us through questions. When we have a question/answer/anything else, we put it into the instant messager box.

For $700, I would expect a bit more 1-on-1 time with our own instructor while we really hone in our weaknesses. Half of the stuff we've done so far is math, the other half is reading/writing. So far, it's only been easy math, so I'm just sitting there waiting to learn.

And I still haven't gotten the flash cards that we were supposed to get (nor did I get my vodka I was promised in another situation, but that's another story )

Personally, if I wanted to buy games for my 3DS this coming Christmas... on my wish list?

Super Mario 3D Land
Mario Kart 7

When they come out:
Luigi's Mansion 2
Monster Hunter 3G
Paper Mario 3DS

(Yeah, I buy Nintendo systems for Nintendo games most of the time.)

Aha! I already bought it. I enjoyed it a lot.

There's a sad thing about everything here, though. What is $40 in the US usually becomes about $63 here. And the Zelda one isn't really an import here in my country, sooooo...

I love writing except when I'm under time constraint. It makes me nervous and unable to think very freely.

These three games seem to be the most interesting on the 3DS so far (along with The Legend of Zelda, of course). Even though I didn't buy and will not buy a 3DS, I'm still curious to see how these games compare to the fans' expectations.

And by the way, I'm pretty similar to you in relation to your last statement: most of the games I have on the Wii are Nintendo ones.

Over here, $700 is just enough for you to get a decent laptop.

To think that $700 can do a lot of things... ah... It all depends on how you use it.

On another topic, anyone like jumping into conversations head-on in chat threads like this one?

Normally no in chat rooms, since I tend to need to think about what to say depending on the conversation. Which is why I rarely use the chat rooms and prefer the chat threads so jumping into a conversation isn't so awkward for me.

But anyway, I would 700 to get my own laptop. I am seriously thinking about living in the dorms to expand my experience outside of my parents' opinion. I haven't been this angry and want to move out so bad, but it's hard to switch back between the American culture and my culture.

Personally, I like active chats, of either kind.

$700 would be plenty to do a lot of things... Maybe I'll get a new laptop to replace my old and almost-busted one.

Let it be known that today, Thursday, October 20, 2011, I have handed in my final homework assignment and taken my last final. Today I, *name withheld*, more informally known as A'bom or "Quil", have finished college. Over the next few months I will be transitioning from the safety of the academic environment into the cold, unforgiving job market. You know what that means?

Tomorrow, I go from being a full-time student to being unemployed.

My laptop is fine enough to serve me for 2 more years at least. I really take care of my electronic gadgets.

If your laptop servers you, then what processes you?

A hamster on a treadmill, perhaps?

The only things that didn't last under me are... my DS Lite and the PlayStation. Must be the build quality.

That said... A'bom, What kind of job are you looking for? Career? It's can take some time getting used to no longer being a student.

I never played Spiro before, so I am not sure how good it is in the first place. I will take it into consideration though.

It's a funny typo, though, so savor it for the fun, huh? Don't worry too much about it anyway - we all make mistakes, I think.

P.S.: Why do I keep typing "anyway" as "anywya"? I keep having to correct that myself these days.

For the time being, I'm just going to take a short rest. Perhaps two weeks. Then I'll be looking for a job.
As for what kind of job, something in the field of programming stuff. Not that specific, is it? I want to keep my mind open to any job in the field. I have never actually been "job hunting" before, so I'm preparing myself with the mindset that every job is going to turn me down. That way, if I do get the job, it's that much more awesome.

I know, my mind works backwards a bit.

I agree, but you should also put a bit of optimism in there, too, so that you don't get too depressed or something.

Like Phantom, I am also doing well in math, surprisingly well. I was very reluctant to take AP Stats (after nearly failing US History and hating AP English Lang and Comp). I thought it was going to turn out like those two classes. But it just seems like another math class to me. As in, it's not too hard (knock on wood). I'm understanding a lot of it and doing well, better than I did in Pre-Calc last year.

And in other news, I actually have a date for homecoming this year It's in one week, so I can't wait!

Marching comps are over (thank god). District qualifiers for forensics are next weekend. District auditions for band are November 12. Districts for forensics are November 19 (which is also ring dance). Latin Convention is November 20. Just a heads up that if you happen need to talk to me, I won't be on these days.

Big, powerful guy at school being an 8th grader, huh? Just remember that next year you're gonna get thrown right back at the bottom of the heap as a freshman. Then, three years later, you'll be a senior and be powerful again. Then, you'll graduate and be a freshman again. This time in college. Fortunately, by that time, usually people have realized that abusing the less experienced guys just doesn't make sense. If, however, this revelation has not been actualized, a senior in college goes on to be an entry-level position in the workforce. Eventually, over the course of the rest of your life, you finally make it to a senior level position for a few years before you retire. Then you're too old to be properly respected by people younger than you.

Problem, power?

But seriously, 8th grade. Yeah, I remember those days. I didn't interact with others enough to exert any power

8th grade was a *****. Not much of another way to put it. To this day, I can't say I'm entirely certain how I pulled out with my head intact. BUT, I'm a Senior now, so I actually get a real feeling of authority. Yeah, freshman year of college is going to put me back down to the bottom, but I don't really plan on being in the places where you get that freshman treatment.
Math, I'm doing surprisingly quite well in. I have an A in AP Calc, which turned out to be not nearly as difficult as my brother seemed to make it out to be. I also got a little side-job tutoring this girl in AP Stats that her mom is actually going to pay me for
So MTC, if you ever need help with AP Stats, I can definitely provide support (I got a 5 on the test).

Move to California. PROBLEM SOLVED!

But, sometimes I wish we got an actual winter here. And I'm not asking for snow or freezing temperatures, I just don't want my winter to feel like the summer. :u
Also, rain. I love rain. Everything about it is great.

My progress report will be distributed on Saturday and I can say that it will not be as pleasing as my parents expect. I will be dealing with a lot of trouble soon, I sense that.

My English Language mark is expected to be a D, a grade I never got before. It is just my new Language teacher who succeeds in being a total jerk. The whole class has low marks, so I am not an exception, yet it is annoying to have such a start. Maths is surprisingly bad so far, not that I don't understand it, but I was too lazy in the past two/three weeks that I didn't bother to study, which resulted in a B. I am uncertain of my Business mark, but Biology, Chemistry and Physics are all well.

The marks are indeed bad, but this year, the only thing I have to focus on is my external examinations in May, so I still have a great chance of getting good grades by the end of this year.

Today, the top scores for the class came out. This is what my report said.
Quote:
Student: Newman, Sydney A.
Class: 2014
Curriculum points:81
Extracurricular points:40
Total points: 121
Class Rank: 20
Academic interest: Classical language and music
That means I roughly have an A average in all my classes (including AP). The points are based off your grades and any excurricular activities. The reason is so if you and another student have the same amount of Curriculum points, who ever has more Extracurricular points is higher.

We never hear anything about our soccer team (that is, if we have one. I hear so little, if not at all, about it that I'm not sure), we only hear about our football team, which sucks HORRIDLY, and our water polo team, which is one of the best in the state. The other sports that we have around school are merely mentioned and usually aren't anything special, like golf, basketball, track, etc.

As a matter of fact, Spyro was the only game my step-mom ever liked, and she was addicted. I swear she'd hog up the Playstation just so she could play, and sometimes she'd even stay up at night playing with my dad. ;0

On the topic of dogs:
I have three dogs at the time of typing this. A German Shepherd-Sheepdog mix named Lucky. We got her literally the same day she was going to be put down. She's also survived biting into electrical wires, getting a part of her tongue singed off, and jumping out of the window. Luckily the window wasn't that high, though. Her name does come in handy, though. ;>
And then I have two other Chihuahuas I got from my grandma. They're like the third or forth generation that my grandma's had. Both are female and named Negra and Loca.

Hey you know all this grades talk is pretty funny to me because I'm currently only passing half of my classes.

Good thing Music Editing/Electronic Music is part of the half I care about anyway.

Are there any new Spyro games on the PS3? I would really love a new game to go through, even though I'm all grown up now.

Uhh. I really don't know. I'm not in the loop with the PS3 library.
And Spyro's changed a lot during the years I've heard.

Yeah that's why I enrolled in those two classes my current college was offering.

Slowly learning Pro Tools in my morning classes on Tuesday/Thursday, and then my afternoon class covers Audacity and pretty much some of the overall history of electronic.

Although lately I've been using Audacity for other things; thanks to a plug-in I DL'd for it, I've managed to convert everything I've made in Editing from .wav to .mp3, which I'm sure will find a use one of these days.

The newest one is Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure, but it's more expensive than your usual game because it has... well, figurines and stuff and... well, a lot of things.

It's also available on the XBOX 360 and Wii, and a different version is available for the 3DS (that will come with a different set of figurines, but all of them are usable in other platforms)

It can get expensive, though. That game got mostly good reviews, but it, I think, isn't what most people call a true Spyro game.

Considering English was my secondary language, it's one of my best classes.
Sometimes I have to resist pronouncing things as you'd say in Spanish. Like, say, pronouncing the "th" sound as the "t" sound.
I also go from speaking in English to Spanish at random times, too.

My language is not bad, but the issue is with our new teacher. He is more than strict in marking and I can hardly understand what exactly he expects from our work. What soothes me though is that all of those marks mean nothing to this year's result, as the only marks will be counted are my IGCSE marks, so I am fine so far.

On another topic, I just bought an external hard disk, a PC controller, and a set of new speakers.
Speaking of computer gadgets, I am in the need of a headset and a USB memory stick. I also need a new mouse, since mine is broken. I am just too lazy to bother and get them.

I do believe that these days, an external hard disk is much more cheaper than a memory stick per GB, and... well, it's larger, hence less easy to lost, though it IS larger and slightly heavier. I got my 1TB one for less than $90, and... it only needs one USB cable to plug into one port.

Seriously, I was thinking two ports and/or external AC adaptors. I was wrong.

I have an external hard drive of 500 GB. I use it to store extra large files. It is quite useful. But I need a memory stick for day-to-day uses, since carrying a hard drive around is not practical.

I wonder whether memory sticks these days are competitive enough... Because portable external HDs are... well, about as large as a pocket-sized book. Think iPhone-size.

Spell checks are nice, huh? I don't have to worry about typos and misspelled words too much these days ever since I installed a spell check plug-in for IE.

Speaking of IE, it's getting native spell check in version 10. Took them long enough. It even does autocorrect Microsoft Word style.

I doubt that there existence would fade. Even though hard drives have larger capacity, memory sticks are smaller in size. Their size is their biggest advantage. They are extremely portable, which is why we will continue using them for smaller day-to-day files, unless hard drives become as small and as fast in accessing the information.

For both of you, I suggest downloading and installing Google Chrome. Not only it is the fastest web browser so far, it is has a handy spelling check and its options are easy to use and handy.
