Paper Mario RPG (Japanese version of Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door) - $20 shipped off eBay

Don't know if I'll ever actually play it, just got it for my TTYD collection.

Also Nintendo why didn't you use those smaller game cases outside of Japan (besides the GameBoy Player startup disk)? These are adorable, I love them.

I missed my favourite holiday, Talk like a Pirate day

To compensate, I bought Pixel Piracy yesterday and every time I play it I read things in a pirate voice

I've bought a lot of stuff recently. I got Diablo 3 and Reaper of Souls (Collectors edition), Dark Souls, Typing of the Dead:Overkill, AVGN Adventures, Duke Nukem 3D, Deud Ex GOTY, and Jet Set Radio all for pretty cheap. I'm really enjoying Diablo III. I didn't know what to expect, but what I got is wonderful.

Guess what came in early? That's right, my Nvidia SHIELD tablet is here and I am posting from it right now. Having the ultimate gaming tablet means I would want games to play, right? I got the Android versions of Jet Set Radio and Portal to play on my new tablet.

EDIT: The Amazon Appstore is at it again. $135 of paid apps for free (EDIT: Deal's Over). I got Sonic 4: Episode 2, Riptide GP 2, and Threes! from the deal.

Interactive Multi-Game Demo Disc: Volume 18 for the GameCube - $20 shipped off eBay

These are the demo disks that were used for demo systems found in stores like GameStop or Walmart. These disks were supposed to be returned to Nintendo, though from the amount of them on eBay they were pretty lax on this rule.

Got for my Paper Mario Thousand Year Door collection as this contained the first demo of the game (back when it was still called Paper Mario 2). Has a few interesting differences from the final game.

Now then

inb4 spam of Smash Bros 3DS (which I pre-ordered and will be picking up after work tomorrow).

Yeah, eBay doesn't seem too picky about what they sell. You can even find the event cartridges for things like the Shiny Dogs and Meloetta and stuff. (Amazon sells no such thing. I guess they actually examine the things people put up for sale on there . . .)

I just picked up Super Smash Bros 3DS this morning. Very fun game. Controls are much better than I expected.

I also fully paid off my Wii U version pre-order.

Just got back from a 25˘ book sale at the public library, and brought home $6.75 worth of books, CD's, videocassettes, and CD-ROM's. Among these were these two highly notable VHS tapes:
- Dune (1984)
- Dirty Harry (1971)

I also bought Tom Clancy's Op Center in audiobook format, which marks the first book on tape that I've ever owned.

Edit: I just noticed that I claimed Post #1111.

I haven't been here in awhile, but I've bought a LOT... Not sure where to start.

Wii U

- Mario Kart 8 (new, physical)
- Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate (download)
- Legend of Zelda: WindWaker HD (MK8 promotional download
- Hyrule Warriors (new, physical)
- NSMB U (used, Steelbook edition for $20 at thrift store)
Target had a 50% off games and accessories so I bought 3 Wii motes (already had the Luigi edition). I also grabbed 2 brand new Wii Classic Controller Pros while I was in Japan. Awesome for Virtual Console games, especially at $15 a piece.

Wii

- De Blob ($10)
- De Blob 2 ($10)
- Sonic Unleashed ($15)
Nothing much here, I've only just begun my Wii search.

3DS

- Pikachu 3DS XL (CIB, $250)
- (In a week, I've pre-ordered) NES 3DS XL (new)
- Super Smash Bros. (new, obviously)
- Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity (new, 50% off)
- Animal Crossing (new, $20)

GB/A

- Pokemon Gold (loose, $15)
- Pokemon Crystal (cart and manual, $25)
- LoZ: Minish Cap (loose, $25)
- Ruby (loose, $20)
- LeafGreen (loose, $20)
- Platinum AGS-101 in mint condition (system and charger, $35)

Gamecube (My pride and joy)

- Mint and complete (minus box) black Gamecube (my second, I know, weak) ($20)
- Legend of Zelda: Collector's Edition (complete, $10, what a steeeeeeeeal)
- Viewtiful Joe (complete, $10)
- Viewtiful Joe 2 (complete, $10)
- Pokemon Colosseum Bonus Disc (complete, $10)
- 2 wired Nintendo controllers ($15 for both)
- 4 Wavebird controllers ($80 for all in mint condition)
- Mario Party 5 (complete, $10)
- Sonic Adventure 2 Battle (no manual, $20)
- Tales of Symphonia (no manual, $20)
- Pikmin (loose, $10)
- Japanese Pokemon Box (complete, $30)
- 2 Gameboy Player Bases with discs in original cases ($60 for both)
- 3rd Gamecube (yet to be tested, mostly for parts, I bought it for $6 because it had a base for a 3rd Gameboy Player on it and a memory card at that price)

That might be it. Maybe.

One of my friends and I went to the midnight release at Gamestop yesterday for Smash bros. Initially we planned to buy it on Amazon prime, but things didn't work out well with that. About an hour later, I found out that a nearby Gamestop has plenty of copies and it would be very likely that I could get one if I went to the midnight release. It was a really nice surprise- I didn't think I'd get my copy until the end of the weekend.

I don't hate you for the Gamecube Legend of Zelda: Collectors edition. It's the only one that I still need/want to get.

Also picked up the three Minecraft handbooks. It looks like I already know most of the stuff in them but they're still really cool to look through.

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS.

You know you're really out there when you end up pinging a lot of StreetPassing people that happen to play it.

I tried to buy it off a shop, but nobody has it in stock. eShop it is!

The next (and most likely final) chapter of my quest for awesome video game video:

Are Gee Bee

The Sony BVM-D20F1U monitor. This exact model right here is regarded by many to be THE best possible set for playing old video games.

One of the reasons many people love it is in addition to having a great resolution, it has a billion controls to fine-tune and calibrate the screen. Probably going to take me all weekend just to get it right (but oh it will be worth it).

After 5 minutes of figuring out how to get the RGB signal to show up properly, the screen finally showed what it could be capable of. It's going to require a bit of calibrating to get it to where it should be but so far off to a great start.

Now I REALLY wonder of that shelf will hold this 86lb monster.....

$120 off someone from Craigslist. While some of you probably think that's a crazy price to pay for "some old CRT television" do keep in mind these go for about $200-600 on eBay (and that's before the outrageous shipping costs). That price is also for the standard BVM-20F1U, this BVM-D (Digital) model also allows for up to 720p/1080i inputs via component cables so it's more desirable and worth more.

Yes, it does 720p/i and 1080i in addition to everything else. The RGB inputs double as component inputs. So yes Wii Virtual Console will look awesome on here also.

As long as you don't go after the widescreen sets next. Those are really expensive.

Myself, I picked up Rhythm Heaven Fever, SimAnimals, and SimAnimals Africa (all for Wii) from GameStop.

I sold a LOT of gaming stuff, mostly duplicate consoles (including a Sega 32X) and games that I never play. In total, I received $130 store credit and used some of that to buy Yoshi's Island (SNES), The Lion King (SNES), Burnout 3: Takedown (PS2), and a new NES power adapter. I also bought the previous RGB monitor and stand that Yoshi had.

Mario Party 8 (Wii), Pitfall II: Lost Caverns (2600), a component cable (PS2/PS3/PS4), an S-video cable (SNES/N64/GCN), and a power adapter (2600) are on their way in the mail.

Not too bad, indeed.

Which style of PS1 is it? The larger light gray model, or the smaller off-white one?

I guess I should've mentioned that huh? Big ol' grey one. No analog sticks on the controller either.

Considering I just sold two complete PlayStations, one of each model, I'd say they're not worth more than about ten dollars, and paying more than that is a bit much. Yoshi has told me the reason behind that is because the PS2 can play nearly all PS1 games flawlessly.

I traded in my Xbox 360 to the Microsoft store and bought an Xbox One for $250. I got the Assassin's Creed bundle, along with NHL 15, Sunset Overdrive, and a year of Gold. I like it a lot so far, just wish the first day wasn't all updates and general disarray. Especially since I have slow internet.

A sweet DRM-free copy of Terraria (I'm glad it has finally been released on GOG), Papers Please, and an assortment of Atari 2600 cartridges (Solaris, Haunted House, Basic Math, Miniature Golf, and Millipede).
Steam sucks. GOG is much better.

Did a little Vectrex shopping this week:
*Vectrex system manuals + Minestorm overlay (worth about $40-50 on it's own) - $20 shipped from eBay
*Vectrex multi-cart - has every released Vectrex game (yes this is legal, all retail Vectrex games were released in the public domain) plus a bunch of homebrew games/demos - $50 new from eBay (of which I'll get back after selling a few of my actual carts)

Now as per tradition before a major game release...

INB4 SPAM OF POKEMON OMEGA RUBY/ALPHA SAPPHIRE AND SMASH BROS WII U

I got Alpha Sapphire, Smash Bros, and Yoshi Amiibo figure waiting for me after work tomorrow (uh, gonna be a LONG day).

Omega Ruby that was on sale for 40% off. I also got a Villager amiibo for Smash Bros. I trained him up to level 50 already and I made him be as bowling ball crazy as I am.

I bought the complete pack of L.A. Noire for $7.50, because at that price, why not?

Now to download all 14 GB of it on my crappy connection...

Traded in some stuff today and got the following in exchange:

Yoshi's Island DS (complete)
Gyromite (NES)

Why I got a NES cartridge for a robot I don't have

When the NES was approaching its first holiday season, Nintendo couldn't keep up with the demand for games. So to speed things along, they imported Japanese Famicom cartridges and stuck them in adapters to play on the NES like this:

So yes, that is an OFFICIAL NINTENDO Famicom to NES adapter. This game normally worth about $5 I can now turn around for $30. For those of you curious if any of your NES games have an adapter (or want to know what to look for while at game stores), check out this list.

So I recently bought a couple things:
- Complete Japanese copy of Pokemon Platinum $20 shipped
- Complete Japanese copy of Pokemon Emerald $40 shipped
- Complete ASCII GameCube Keyboard Controller $40 shipped
That last one was completely on a whim. I paid $13 (CAD) for the item itself and $27 (CAD) for shipping.

Finally got myself another external hard drive. Seagate, 1 TB. I've heard some not-so-nice things about Seagate hard drives (i.e. crapping out way more quickly than other hard drive manufacturers) but the 500GB one I have has been fine for more than a year so I'm not too worried.

Since Amazon is running another promotion where they offer $X amount of Android apps for free (good until Friday), I decided to do some app grabbing. Among a ton of utility apps that replace their inferior built-in counterparts, I got a hold of these games:

- Five Nights at Freddy's
- Terraria
- Sonic the Hedgehog 2
- Worms 3
- Tetris

I must say that I've always wanted to get Terraria. Seems as if my Moto G was on Santa's "good list" this year. XD

EDIT: The promotion has ended.

My television died on Christmas, so I had to pick up a new set today, an Insignia NS-40D510NA15. It's not too special, but it gets the job done.

I went to Nintendo World this weekend! Despite being completely crowded inside, I managed to buy a few things.

A very...expensive Ganondorf figure that I bought for one of my friends. The Nintendo World employees were very nice to let me take a picture of it.

And a Sylveon and Carbink plush because I like fairies.

Traded in Mortal Kombat I and I, as well as Super Street Fighter II - all of which are the Sega Genesis versions - for the 5-screw variant of the Duck Hunt game and a battery charger for both Nickel-Cadmium and Nickel Metal Hydride AA/AAA battery types. Though I'm a good 5 blocks away from home at the moment, I was able to test the battery charger using the batteries in my mouse. We'll see if Duck Hunt - which I hope has the ever-popular, official Famicom-to-NES adapter - was worth the trade when I get home.

This is just me, but I really didn't care for Mortal Kombat on the Sega Genesis, which is strange because I love arcade-style fighting games. o.o

EDIT - The game does not have the Famicom to NES adapter after all. However, it is my second NES cartridge to have a ROM board with a copyright date of 1986, the first one being Contra.

I picked up a copy of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and a Link Amiibo a few days ago. Also, through the current $x of games and apps for free promotion on the Amazon Appstore, I got Monopoly and Table Top Racing for my tablet.

Picked up a few various Steam games in the holiday sale over the last week or so.

More interestingly, I also went and picked up a copy of Cube Ninja, which happens to contain a bug that basically lets you do homebrew on your 3DS. One step closer to realizing my dream of making a game for the 3DS

Thrift stores are amazing. Goodwill is one of the best places to shop. Found an Ice Blue Gameboy Pocket in excellent condition. This thing is pretty.

I love clearance CDs. I managed to pick up 31 of them from a local music shop for 50 cents apiece, mostly classical, rock, pop, new wave, and new age.

And to keep it relevant to video games, I also picked up Putter Golf on the PlayStation for $4.

Not necessarily video game related, but still some nice finds for under $5.

- Hanimex 2105 vacuum-fluorescent calculator: $0.99 at Goodwill.
- Apple iSight FireWire webcam: $3 at the resale shop. Original price in 2003 was around $150.

When I connected the iSight to my iBook G3, it only worked as a microphone, and iChat AV said that - and I quote - "video conferencing is not supported by this computer." I suppose that's because the iSight requires a larger screen depth than what the iBook is capable of displaying (the iBook can display up to a meager 800x600 pixels). With that in mind, I tested the iSight with my eMac (which has Mac OS X 10.3.9 - the same as the iBook), and iChat AV gave me not only the volume levels from the microphone, but also a preview of the camera input.

The good thing out of all this trial and error, is that the iSight remedies the iBook's lack of an internal microphone, and it was worth waiting all afternoon to have Mac OS X installed on the iBook. I will investigate what other audio/video programs I can possibly use with this built-like-a-tank webcam. Pictures will be posted later in my Tech Ramblings thread.

It's not exactly gaming, but it was a rather nice find nonetheless at another local Goodwill.

The Yamaha PortaSound PSS-130, a purely synthesized portable keyboard with two-note polyphony released in 1987. The unit appears to be in pretty nice condition, sports a variety of patches, and accepts four C cells, which were conveniently already installed.

I already own a wavetable PortaSound PSS-12, but it's in disrepair. One key is broken off, and another doesn't work properly. In addition, one of the speakers is loose inside the keyboard.

Cat and I went to a bunch of garage sales yesterday (very beautiful weather).

First a few cartridge-only Genesis games

*Sonic the Hedgehog
*Sonic the Hedgehog 2
*Generic FootBall Sports Game II
*Michael Jackson's Moonwalker (which I can resell for a nice $30-40 profit)

Guy had no idea what they were so only asked 25 cents each.

Then at another one I got this.
The guy had a hobby of making these framed displays for older trading cards. These two had cards for Donkey Kong from the early 80s by Topps. $20 for them both (the cards alone are worth about $1-2 each if sold individually).
I'm going to take them out of these frames (the cheap printed artwork in the center really throws off the overall appearance and there is way too much white-space for my liking) and put them into my trading card binder for now. These frames I will probably re-use for some other larger posters I have.

From the same set of garage sales, I obtained the following:

Ms. Pac-Man (GEN) - $0.25
Xenogears (Japanese, PS1) - $5
Simple 1500 Series Vol. 1: The Mahjong (Japanese, PS1) - Packaged with Xenogears
PS/2 Logitech Marble Mouse (a trackball) - $3
USB Dell keyboard - $3
VGA cable - $2.50
DVI cable - $2.50
Small TV stand - $10
Small organizational trays - $1
15 lb. bowling ball, bag, and size-11 shoes (my size ) - $5

I didn't mention the two WRT54G Linksys routers I picked up a few days ago for $5 each, so I guess I'll mention those now.

Also of worthy mention are all the card games I picked up over the last few weeks:
Fluxx v4
Monopoly Deal
Uno
Loonacy
No Thanks!
(And the following a few months ago)
EcoFluxx
Rook
Scrabble Slam!

Cat and I went garage sailing again today. Not as many as last week due to predicted rain storms (which we didn't get). For the most part pretty boring, until we got to the last one which had A LOT of video game stuff (mostly Wii, DS, and PS2). Here's what I got from it:
  • Two black GameCube systems (one with power, AV, and controller)
  • A small GameCube disk holder with 14 disk-only games (including Super Mario Sunshine, Mario Kart Double Dash, Legend of Zelda Wind Waker, Sonic Adventure 2, MegaMan Anniversary, and a bunch of sport games)
  • Fortune Street for the Wii (complete)
  • About 10 empty 3DS/DS game cases (they didn't have the games, tossed these cases in for free)
All of that for a whopping $20. It's obvious all this stuff was kid owned (dirty, folded up instructions, etc) but hopefully shouldn't be much work to clean them up.

Oh, I didn't post what I got from the same garage sale day of wonder:
  • An old Compaq Presario M2000 in near-perfect condition for $20. I gave it a fresh Windows XP installation (there was a key on the bottom, and when I tried Windows 7 it made me realize why so many people hated upgrading old computers to Vista) and applied the updates. It has an old Celeron, a 40 gig hard drive, and a gig of RAM. Sure, its battery is junk and it's a very weak system, but I like having a project laptop around.
  • Nintendo 3DS with charger for $35. Its battery is clearly showing age, and the casing looks like it's been chewed on, but the system works quite well.
  • A few games for $5, mostly leftover stuff from what Yoshi got, and the DS games came with the 3DS. All are loose unless specified, plus one empty 3DS case.
    • Mario Kart Wii + manual (Wii) [needs repair]
    • Bakugan Battle Brawlers + case + manual (DS)
    • SpongeBob Atlantis SquarePantis (DS)
    • Naruto: Clash of Ninja (GCN)
    • Mega Man Anniversary Collection (GCN)
    • Sonic Adventure 2 Battle

I also recently picked up a double-nine set of dominoes, Phase 10, LCR, and Skip-Bo.

You indeed did. Both screens have a few distracting scratches on it, the 3D slider is hard to move (but I never play with 3D so that isn't a problem for me) and the top-left corner has a bunch of small chew-marks on it. However, the buttons all work perfectly, which is rare to see on a heavily-used system. I think the SD card has some bad sectors, too, as it has already failed to be read twice. But still, the SD card is easily replaceable and the screens can be buffed. And yes, $35 with the charger.

Here are two pictures, one with flash (to show all the scratches on the screens) and one without (to show how they're not terrible). Two particular scratches can be seen in both photos: look between the yellow "!" icon and the word "Health" on the top screen, then look at the one with which that scratch intersects. I really had to drop the JPEG quality on these; they were 10 megs apiece.

Came with 3D World and Nintendo Land; already had Mario Kart 8 and WWHD, and I'll probably redeem Super Mario World as soon as I get it linked with Club Nintendo.

Garage sales again today. There were like a bajillion of them today, but pickings were pretty slim as far as interesting stuff:

GameBoy Camera (yellow) - $2 (and included free pictures of dogs and someone picking their nose)
Sandwich size bag full of LEGO parts - $1
Bag with a few extra keys and key remover for a mechanical keyboard - 50 cents

Also got the new Yoshi amiibo from WalMart.

I just recently bought a GPS so the wife and I can go visit a few friends this summer. Also, I finally picked up Majora's Mask 3D.

After much pain and much waiting, and a tip off from Yoshi..

I finally was able to buy the Majora's Mask New 3DS at gamestop with the last bit that finally flooded in for them. Instead of paying 400+ I got it at the regular new 3DS price.

I preordered an Etrian Mystery Dungeon bundle on Crunchyroll; I'm getting so much free stuff for the normal price of the game

"Out of stock"

Never mind, that was the small shirt. I was able to order it too.

Since I enjoyed Etrian Odyessy so much I went and joined these two in preordering.

Traded in some extra stuff I had around for a complete like-new copy of Pokémon XD (GameCube).

That Etrian Mystery Dungeon combo was bogus. The DS game was garbage (everyone got the same one), the shirt didn't interest me in the slightest, and the DLC was all free anyway.

Anyway, garage sales can be quite amusing, especially when you find rare items for dirt cheap.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds (3DS, unopened) - $1
Burnout 2 (PS2, disc only) - $1
Tetris Worlds (GameCube, complete) - $1
Kyocera Brio feature phone - $2 (worth it for the laughs of having two phones with the same number)
Bowling ball (15 lb.) - $5

Yes, that is indeed correct. A brand new copy of A Link Between Worlds was only one dollar. (Well, it was $5 for the three games plus the phone, but the guy counted the games out as a dollar each.)

And yes, I did get another bowling ball, as the other one was only worth it for the shoes. It's a bit heavy for my tastes, but it was only five bucks, and it's worth trying out a few balls until I find one I like.

Some people just don't understand video games.

Now I'm like 70% convinced you keep picking up bowling balls at garage sales just to make me scratch my head . . .

I got back into bowling regularly at the beginning of last year. The house balls vary enough that it can be tough figuring out my bowling style, and my scores vary wildly because of it. There are certain bowling alleys that have perfect bowling balls for my tastes, as they have finger holes in many different sizes, regardless of the ball weight; the regular alley I visit bases the hole size on the weight.

Got a free SixAxis controller for my iMac over the weekend. My brother didn't need it anymore because he rarely plays multiplayer games on his PS3, which is something he hasn't done since he moved to Michigan in 2012. Plus, for the games he plays on his PC, just one SixAxis controller is enough.

Bought Elder Scrolls: Oblivion GOTY with all the add-ons (DLC stuff) included for USD 14.99 on the Humble Store.

Looking forward to modding the heck out of it and applying unofficial patches to make it "my game!" mostly.
